HOUW HOEK MTB TOUR
Overview & Facts
The Houw Hoek Tour is a non-competitive 2 day MTB stage event. The objective is to give MTB’s and newcomers to multi-stage events (NOT NEWCOMERS TO MTB) the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of scenic, fun and non-competitive riding. However, make sure that you are fit as each of the two stages are approximately 50 km, mostly on gravel roads (including jeep and single tracks) and that you can and love riding single tracks.

Route Information and Profile
Stage 1 of the 2017 Houw Hoek Tour:
- The first 10 km to Thandi (Water Point 1 at 15 km) is different as it by-pass Lebanon Village, with sufficient open roads to limit bottle necks;
- From Thandi WP, up the switch backs, along the railway line, via Kromco and then into Paul Cluver;
- NEW – we’ve eliminated Kili Hills 1 & 2, as the Rietfontein damwall was increased with 9m and we’ll build an alternative route to Witklippieskloof, (at 450m);
- From Witklippies down to the Amphitheater (Water Point 2 at 25km), in the Bike Park to cross Raka, Swing, Kransvoel and the Ark;
- Then test your skills on the Cobra switchbacks, if you walked / battled, then take the non-technical alternatives at Mamba and Pofadder;
- From the Jakkelsriver Dam the same route back to Houwhoek Inn, with a T Split option, Left technical or Right non-technical, near the Finish.
Stage 2 is a winner and stays the same as last year (although an easier option has been added near the end – see below)
The Houw Houk Tour gives you the opportunity to cycle some of the W2W RACE routes. The Tour also aims to let you explore and experience what a multi-stage event is all about and offers a relax and supportive atmosphere as no timing is done.
Stage 1 starts at 08h00 on Saturday 5 May 2018 and finishes at the Houw Hoek Inn. This stage includes the Thandi, Paul Cluver, Korteshoven and Houw Hoek single tracks. New single tracks have been added in Paul Cluver, eliminating Kili Hills 1 & 2.
Stage 2 starts same time on Sunday 6 May 2018 from the Houw Hoek Inn. The route takes you down the historic Katpass, via Beumont and the Wildekrans Winery trails, along the Botriver. Onto the Karwyders tar road, over the Steel bridge and then on single tracks that link the four historic cottages on Bot river farm. At the De Bos damwall you turn right down the Onrust river into the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, along Jan’s beautiful single tracks.
